Christmas on the Cajun Coast

The Cajun Coast Visitors & Convention Bureau invites you to join us this holiday season. Throughout the Christmas holidays, St. Mary Parish will be decorated with lighted trails, splendid homes dressed for the season, parades, performances and more.

The Idlewild Plantation Christmas Lighting begins this Cajun Christmas season. Beginning November 25 – December 31, 2012, take a driving tour along a path filled with elaborate displays of Christmas lights while Christmas music enhances the drive through Kemper Williams Park. Admission is $2 per car. *Dependent on weather.

Throughout the month of December, historic homes in the parish will be beautifully decorated for the Christmas holidays. The Grevemberg House in Franklin will be decorated in the Victorian Style Christmas. Displays will include a traditional Victorian Christmas tree and displays of traditional foods and fruits. Admission: $10 per person, $8 for seniors. Also, Oaklawn Manor, the residence of Louisiana’s former governor and wife, Mike and Alice Foster, will be elaborately adorned for Christmas with a different style tree in every room. Admission is $15 per person and $10 for students. Hours to tour these homes are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, with the exception of Oaklawn Manor, who is closed on Mondays.

Come join in on the holiday fun at Franklin’s Walking & Golf Cart Parade & Lamplighter Ceremony on November 29th at 6 p.m. on the corner of Jackson and Main Streets, and Santa’s Block Party will be held on December 1st in Downtown Morgan City starting at 10 a.m. Admission is free to both of these events. The MCHS BETA Club will host their Christmas Bazaar on December 1st, at the Morgan City Junior High from 9 am to 2 pm.

Pharr Methodist Church, located on Federal Avenue, will have an Advent Event for Christmas on December 2nd from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. The 24th Annual Christmas by Candlelight will also be held on December 8th from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Bernice Street in Morgan City. Residents of Bernice Street will decorate their homes and will light luminaries along the roadway to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season.

Christmas entertainment will include the 1st Christmas Gala, hosted by Friends of the Patterson Community Center, featuring Tommy G, Mayor Rodney Grogan & Friends, Saxophonist Jeremy Benoit and DJ Kidd Kidd, on December 7th from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Patterson Area Civic Center. Admission is $10 in advance. Contact 985-519-0716 to purchase tickets. A live theatre production with professional actors and local elementary school children as they perform the Christmas play, “Humbug,” at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium on December 10th at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 per person at the door or $4 in advance.

The 17th Annual Christmas Tree Festival will be held December 11th through January 1, 2013, at the Louisiana State Museum in Patterson, LA. Christmas trees decorated by children in the area will be on exhibit. The Christmas Tree Festival - Open House will also be held on December 11th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the museum. Visitors will be able to view a variety of decorated Christmas trees and hear children from local schools singing holiday carols. Admission is free.

The American Cancer Society, along with MC Bank & Trust Company, will host the 14th Annual “Love Lights a Tree” Christmas tree lighting ceremony on December 13th to remember and honor those who have been touched by cancer. On December 16th Pharr Chapel Methodist Church will have their Annual Christmas Cantata at 10 a.m., and the Patterson Christmas Parade will also take place on December 16th at 2 p.m. beginning at the Place Norman Shopping Center, continuing down Hwy. 182 and concluding at Patterson High School.
