Christmas Events Around the Cajun Coast 

Cajun Coast Visitors & Convention Bureau invites you to join us this holiday season. Throughout the Christmas holidays, St. Mary Parish will be decorated with lighted trails, splendid homes dressed for the season, parades, performances and more.

The City of Patterson will kick-off this Cajun Christmas season with their Christmas Lighting taking place on November 24th, at City Hall at 6 pm. The Traditional Idlewild Plantation Christmas Lighting driving tour will also begin on November 24th. Take a ride along a path filled with elaborate displays of Christmas lights while Christmas music enhances the drive through Kemper Williams Park. The driving tour will end on December 31st. Admission is $2 per car. Open from 5:30 to 9 pm daily, dependent on weather.

A Free Turkey Drive for the local community will be held at the Amelia Civic Center on November 25th. Contact 985-631-2032 for more information. Moonlight Monday Shopping, will also take place on November 25th, presented by the Morgan City Main Street Program. This event will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Front Street in Morgan City. Retail merchants along Front Street will offer specials, discounts and door prizes to shoppers kicking off the holiday shopping season! Contact 985-385-1770 ext. 112 for more information.

On November 28th, the City of Morgan City and Town of Berwick will host Christmas lighting events. Morgan City’s, Christmas Lighting Ceremony will begin at 6 pm with a surprise visit by Santa at the Shrimp Boat on Brashear Avenue, and Berwick’s Lighting of the Town will be held at the Town Hall with a visit from Santa at 7 pm.

Throughout the month of December, historic homes in the parish will be beautifully decorated for the Christmas holidays. The Grevemberg House in Franklin will be decorated in the Victorian Style Christmas. Displays will include a traditional Victorian Christmas tree and displays of traditional foods and fruits. Admission: $10 per person, $8 for seniors. Also, Oaklawn Manor, the residence of Louisiana’s former governor and wife, Mike and Alice Foster, will be elaborately adorned for Christmas with a different style tree in every room. Visitors can tour Oaklawn to view its Christmas décor through January 6, 2014. Admission is $15 per person and $10 for students. Hours to tour these homes are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, with the exception of Oaklawn Manor, who is closed on Mondays.

Come join in on the holiday fun at Franklin’s Christmas Under the Lamppost Walking Parade & Lamplighter Ceremony on December 7th at 6 p.m. on the corner of Jackson and Main Streets. Santa’s Block Party will also be held on December 7th in Downtown Morgan City starting at 10 a.m. Admission is free to both of these events.

Live Christmas entertainment will include a theatre production by the Tri-City Youth Theatre at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium on December 9th at 6:30 p.m. Local elementary school children will perform the Christmas production “Babes in Toyland.” Admission is $5 per person at the door or $4 in advance. The American Cancer Society, along with MC Bank & Trust Company, will host the 15th Annual “Love Lights a Tree” Christmas tree lighting ceremony on December 10th from 6 to 7 pm on the corner of Victor II Blvd. and Brashear Avenue in Morgan City to remember and honor those who have been touched by cancer. Contact 985-384-2100 to receive more information, and find out how to dedicate an ornament to a loved one and/or friend. Also on December 10th the Marine Corps Band will perform at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium at 7 pm. The 18th Annual Christmas Tree Festival will be held December 12th at the Louisiana State Museum in Patterson, LA.  Christmas trees decorated by children in the area will be on exhibit.  The Christmas Tree Festival - Open House will also be held on December 12th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the museum.  Visitors will be able to view the Christmas trees and hear children from local schools singing holiday carols. Admission is free.

On December 13th, Maison Jardin Assisted Living in Morgan City will host a ceremony, Wreaths Across America, placing wreaths to honor and remember veterans who served at 2 pm. Contact 985-385-3003 for more information.

The 25th Annual Christmas by Candlelight where the residents of Bernice Street in Morgan City decorate for the Christmas season invite the public to view the lights on December 14th from 5:30 to 9 pm. Each house will light luminaries along the roadway and there is no admission fee for this event. Contact 985-384-8003 for more information. The Patterson Christmas Parade will be held on December 15th at 2 pm along Hwy. 182 in Patterson.
