Christmas on the Cajun Coast - 2014 Press Release

The Cajun Coast Visitors & Convention Bureau invites you to join us this holiday season. Throughout the Christmas holidays, St. Mary Parish will be decorated with lighted trails, splendid homes dressed for the season, parades, performances and more.

Morgan City Main Street will host Moonlight Monday Shopping on November 24th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Downtown Historic Front Street. Meal tickets will be sold from Café Jo Jo's. Contact 985-385-1770 ext. 112 for more information.

On November 27th, the City of Morgan City, Town of Berwick and City of Patterson will all host Christmas lighting events. Morgan City's, Christmas Lighting Ceremony will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a surprise visit by Santa at the Shrimp Boat on Brashear Avenue. Berwick's Christmas Lighting and Meet Santa Claus & Mrs. Claus will be held at the Town Hall at 6:00 p.m. Patterson's will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the parking lot at Patterson City Hall.

The Traditional Idlewild Plantation Christmas Lighting driving tour will take place November 30th through December 31st. Take a ride along a path filled with elaborate displays of Christmas lights while Christmas music enhances the drive through Kemper Williams Park. Admission is $2 per car. Open from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. daily, dependent on weather.

Throughout the month of December, historic homes in the parish will be beautifully decorated for the Christmas holidays. The Grevemberg House in Franklin will be decorated in the Victorian Style Christmas. Displays will include a traditional Victorian Christmas tree and displays of traditional foods and fruits. Admission: $10 per person, $8 for seniors. Also, Oaklawn Manor, the residence of Louisiana's former governor and wife, Mike and Alice Foster, will be elaborately adorned for Christmas with a different style tree in every room. Visitors can tour Oaklawn to view its Christmas décor through January 6, 2015. Admission: $15 per person, $10 for students. Hours to tour these homes are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, with the exception of Oaklawn Manor, who is closed on Mondays.

Come join in on the holiday fun on December 6th at the Downtown Christmas Celebration which will have a car show in Downtown Historic Morgan City beginning at 8:00 a.m., and then head to Franklin for the City of Franklin's Christmas under the Lampposts and Christmas parade at 6:00 p.m. beginning at the corner of Jackson and Main Streets. The parade will conclude at the Courthouse Square with the lighting of the parish tree. Old Soul will perform from 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. at the pavilion. Walkers, game hosts, vendors and golf cart drivers must complete registration forms to participate in Christmas under the Lampposts. The deadline to register is November 26th. Live Christmas entertainment will include a theatre production by the Tri-City Youth Theatre at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium on December 8th at 6:00 p.m. Local elementary school children will perform the Christmas production "The Grinch." Admission is $5 per person at the door or $4 in advance. The United States Marine Corps Forces Reserve Band from New Orleans for the benefit of the annual Toys for Tots Tour campaign Christmas Concert will take place on December 11th at the Paul Schreier Theatre in the Municipal Auditorium in Morgan City. On December 14th the Annual "Lessons and Carols" Christmas Concert will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Main Street in Franklin. Pharr Chapel on Federal Avenue in Morgan City will host their Annual Christmas Cantata at 10:00 a.m. on December 21st.

The Wedell-Williams Aviation & Cypress Sawmill 19th Annual Christmas Tree Festival Exhibit Open House will be held December 9th at the Louisiana State Museum in Patterson from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  Christmas trees decorated by children in the area will be on exhibit. Visitors will be able to view the Christmas trees and hear children from local schools singing holiday carols. Admission is free. Contact 985-399-1268 for more information.    

The American Cancer Society, along with MC Bank & Trust Company, will host the 16th Annual "Love Lights a Tree" Christmas tree lighting ceremony on December 11th from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on the corner of Victor II Blvd. and Brashear Avenue in Morgan City to remember and honor those who have been touched by cancer. On December 13th, the City of Patterson's 1st Annual Christmas Boat Lighting Parade sponsored by The Patterson Economic Development Tourist Committee will be held at 6:00 p.m. starting at Cajun Jack Swamp Tours and ending at Bridge Road in the Lower Atchafalaya. Any kind of personal boat is welcome to enter, and you do not have to be a resident of Patterson to participate. Registration is required with an entry fee. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded to the best light decorated boats in the parade. Deadline for entering the boat parade is November 21, 2014. Also, the Patterson Lower Atchafalaya Main Street/Cultural District Committee is asking for all residents or businesses located on Main Street to participate in a Christmas lighting contest. This contest will be free to enter with no registration necessary. To enter, all you have to do is decorate your home or business with Christmas lights and/or decorations. Residents who live on the bayou side are encouraged to decorate both front and back of their home or business. An awards ceremony will follow afterwards at City Hall in Patterson, where gumbo and soft drinks will be available for sale, and hot chocolate will be provided free of charge for the children. Santa will also make an appearance to take pictures with the kids.

The City of Patterson will also host their Annual Christmas Parade at 2:00 p.m. on December 14th down Hwy. 182 in Patterson. And for more Holiday fun there will be a Christmas Eve Dance beginning at 10:00 p.m. at the Patterson Area Civic Center. Contact 985-395-8313 for more information on the dance.
