Mardi Gras on the Cajun Coast Celebrations

            St. Mary Parish has begun planning for the 2015 Mardi Gras season. There will be multiple parades throughout the parish for everyone in the family to enjoy.

            The first parade of the season will take place on Friday, February 13th at 7 p.m. in Morgan City, LA. The Krewe of Adonis parade will begin at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium (located at the corner of Hwy. 182 and Myrtle Street), turn onto Victor II Boulevard, continue onto Marguerite Street, Sixth Street, Onstead Street, Federal Avenue and conclude at the intersection of Brashear and Federal Avenues.

            Three parades will take place on Saturday, February 14th. The Baldwin Mardi Gras parade will begin at 12:00 noon on Hwy. 182/Main Street at the Sager-Brown facility in Baldwin, continuing down Hwy. 182/Main Street, turning left onto Martin Luther King Boulevard, a right onto Bollard Street, and will conclude at the Baldwin Community Center. The Krewe of Dionysus parade will be at 2 p.m. this year in Bayou Vista beginning on Delmar Drive at its intersection with Jupiter Road, proceeding onto Venus Road, Saturn Road, Southeast Boulevard, Canal Street, Teche Road, Fairmont Avenue, back to Southeast Boulevard, and will conclude on Belleview Drive. The Cypremort Point Parade will be at 1 p.m. down Hwy 319 in Cypremort Point.

            The Krewe of Galatea parade will begin at 2 p.m. in Morgan City on February 15th. The parade route will begin on Second Street under the LA 182 Bridge proceeding north to Onstead Street, Sixth Street, Marguerite Street, and Victor II Boulevard, ending at the Municipal Auditorium on Myrtle Street. The Krewe of Amani parade will take place in Patterson on February 16th starting at 2 p.m. The parade will begin at Patterson High School on Hwy. 182/Main Street and continues down Hwy. 182/Main St. to the Place Norman Shopping Center on Hwy. 182/Main Street.

            The Franklin Mardi Gras parade will take place in Franklin at 1 p.m. on February 17th. This parade will begin at Franklin Senior High School on Main Street. It travels east on Main Street, making a U-turn and then continues onto Willow Street. The parade then turns right onto Third Street, disbanding at the end of Third Street.

            The final parade in St. Mary Parish will be the Krewe of Hephaestus parade on February 17th, beginning on the corner of Sixth and Sycamore Streets, it proceeds south on Sixth Street to Marguerite Street, and Victor II Boulevard, ending at the Morgan City Auditorium on Myrtle Street.

             In addition to the numerous parades, Oaklawn Manor will be beautifully decorated and adorned in the purple, green and gold hues of the Mardi Gras season. This magnificently decorated plantation will be open for viewing 7 days a week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the Mardi Gras season. Admission is $15 per person and $10 for students.
