A Tradition on the Cajun Coast

For 91 years, the Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival has celebrated the people and industries that helped shape Morgan City and St. Mary Parish. Held September 3rd-7th, the five-day celebration brings the community together around the waterfront with a lineup that combines long-standing traditions, local culture, great food, and entertainment for all ages. 

Start the Weekend in Downtown Morgan City

Festival activities begin Thursday, September 3rd, with a 5:15pm ribbon cutting in downtown Morgan City. Carnival rides open from 5pm-10pm, while Artist Guild Unlimited welcomes visitors to its 62nd Annual Show and Sale. On Friday, explore the arts and crafts marketplace, stop by the Cajun Culinary Classic, and enjoy carnival rides before settling in for Music in the Park. Friday’s performers include the Justin Cornett Band and Jamie Bergeron & The Kickin Cajuns.

Make Saturday a Family Day

Saturday, September 5th, offers activities from morning through evening. The 100 Black Men 5K Run/Walk begins at 8am, and children’s activities are scheduled in Lawrence Park from 8am-10:30am. The Children’s Parade begins at 11am, followed by the Children’s Village ribbon cutting at 1pm. Browse the Marketplace Under the Bridge, enjoy the carnival, and stop by the shrimp cookoff at the Morgan City dock on Front Street at 2pm. Gospel in the Park and a full lineup of live performances add even more entertainment.

Experience the Blessing of the Fleet

Sunday, September 6th, features some of the festival’s most meaningful waterfront traditions. Mass in the Park takes place from 8:30am-9:30am, followed by the Blessing of the Fleet and Water Parade at the Front Street Dock from 10am-noon. The street parade begins at 3pm, and fireworks light up the Atchafalaya River at 9pm. Throughout the day, visitors can also enjoy the Rotary Pancake Breakfast, arts and crafts, the Children’s Village, carnival rides, and live music.

Find Art, Food, and Live Music

Festival weekend is a chance to experience the creativity and flavors that make the Cajun Coast special. Artist Guild Unlimited’s Labor Day Art Show and Sale features work by local and national artists, while the marketplace showcases arts and crafts. The Cajun Culinary Classic brings plenty of local flavor, and Music in the Park continues throughout the weekend. On Monday, September 7th, performances include Cliff Hillebran from noon-2pm and South 70 from 2:30pm-4:30pm.

A Louisiana Tradition

For more than nine decades, the Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival has celebrated the people, culture, and industries of Morgan City and the surrounding area. The festival returns for five days of community events and entertainment, offering plenty of ways for visitors of all ages to join the celebration.

Parades, Music, and Family Fun

Festival activities include a street parade, children’s parade, Music in the Park, a carnival, Children’s Village, and arts and crafts. Visitors can also explore the Artist Guild Art Show and enjoy a full schedule of activities throughout the long weekend.

Traditions Along the Water

The Blessing of the Fleet remains one of the festival’s signature traditions, honoring the shrimping and petroleum vessels that are an important part of the area’s story. Fireworks on the River will also light up the waterfront during the celebration.

Community Events

The festival brings the community together through the 100 Black Men 5K run/walk, Mass in the Park, the Petro Pit, and the annual Coronation and Ball. Each event adds another part to a celebration rooted in local pride and tradition.

Enjoy the 4th of July Lake Jam

The festivities take place on Saturday, July 4th, from 3-9pm at Lake End Park in Morgan City. This family-friendly event brings together live entertainment, local food vendors, and plenty of patriotic fun along the waterfront.

Join the Boat Parade

One of the highlights of the day is the annual boat parade. Decorated boats will line up beginning at 4pm, showcasing their red, white, and blue spirit as they cruise through the area. Judging begins at 4:30pm, with prizes awarded to the most festive entries. It’s a fun tradition that captures the community spirit of the Cajun Coast.

Live Music All Afternoon

Guests can enjoy live performances throughout the event. South 70 takes the stage from 3-5:30pm, providing the perfect soundtrack for an afternoon by the water. From 6-9pm, No Idea keeps the celebration going with live music leading up to the evening fireworks.

Food, Fireworks, and Summer Fun

Come hungry and enjoy food trucks serving up local favorites throughout the event. As the sun goes down, find a spot by the water and get ready for a spectacular fireworks display that will light up the night sky and provide a memorable finish to the celebration.

Summer Festivals & Live Music

Summer on the Cajun Coast comes alive with music, festivals, and community events throughout June. The 6th Annual Soul Food Festival returns to Franklin June 19th-21st with live performances, food vendors, races, and family-friendly activities. Celebrate culture and community during the 7th Annual Juneteenth Bike Ride on June 20th from 8am-12pm.

Live music fans can also enjoy performances throughout the month in Morgan City. Double Play will perform at Lake End Park on June 20th from 6pm-9pm, followed by Krossover on June 27th from 6pm-9pm. Pool Do’s Sports Bar will also host live music by Cliff Hillebran on June 27th from 9pm-1pm. 

Families can also enjoy the 2nd Annual Market & Family Fun Day on June 27th from 9am-1pm at Bayou Vista Community Center.

Rockin’ the Dock

Kick off the weekend on April 10th from 6-9pm with Rockin’ the Dock, hosted by Morgan City Main Street on Freret Street Dock. This free Friday night series features live music and a fun, laid-back atmosphere along the water. Bring your chair, gather your friends, and enjoy a lively evening in Downtown Morgan City. This event takes place every Friday.

Dinner Under the Lampposts

Experience a magical evening on April 11th from 6-9pm at Dinner Under the Lampposts, hosted by The Franklin Merchant’s Association in downtown Historic Franklin. Enjoy live music by Chase Landry & Brittany Pool, dinner by Chef Willie Gaspard, and the return of the famous pork chop, all set under the glow of the lampposts. Enjoy an evening of high-energy entertainment on April 16th from 7-9pm at The Schreier Theatre of the Morgan City Auditorium. Hosted by the Morgan City Live Community Concert Association, the MidAtlantic Men deliver a dynamic performance featuring iconic hits from artists like Elvis, The Beatles, Queen, and more.

Head to East Stephensville Road on April 18th from 12pm-5pm for the Stephensville Annual Cajun Cook-Off hosted by Ashley Hebert. Enjoy live music, raffle and auction, great food, and a BYOB atmosphere with free admission.

21st Annual Black Bear Festival

Enjoy an evening of live music on April 24th from 7-9pm with Brittany Pool & Band, hosted by the Franklin Merchant’s Association. This free event will take place on Downtown Historic Main Street in Franklin, offering a lively atmosphere and great entertainment in the heart of town. 

Celebrate Louisiana culture and wildlife on April 25th from 9am-11pm at the 21st Annual Black Bear Festival, hosted by The Franklin Merchant’s Association. This event takes place along the bank of the Bayou Teche in Downtown Historic Franklin and highlights the Louisiana Black Bear through educational exhibits, field trips, and children’s activities. Enjoy live music, food, and a full day of festival fun. 

Join the Running of the Bears 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run on April 25th from 8am-12pm. Hosted by the Franklin Merchants Association and Bayou Bend Fitness Center, this event encourages participants of all paces to get moving and take on the challenge.

Don’t miss the 2nd Annual Cast Iron Cook-Off on April 25th from 11am-2:30pm during the Black Bear Festival. Hosted by the Cajun Greeks, teams will compete in seafood and non-seafood categories, cooking dishes over rice in cast iron pots.

Easter Egg Hunt in Lawrence Park

On March 21st from 10-11am, Morgan City Main Street hosts a free Easter Egg Hunt at Lawrence Park. Age groups include 2 and under, 3-5 years, and 6-8 years, giving children plenty of opportunities to join in the fun. Easter Egg Hunt & Blood Drive

Also on March 21st from 10am-3pm, BVCC & BVVFD host an Easter Egg Hunt & Blood Drive filled with activities for all ages. The day includes games, inclusive play times for children with accommodations, an egg hunt at 1:15pm, basket judging at 2:30pm, and a community blood drive from 10am-3pm. Adults and individuals 16 years and older are encouraged to donate and help support local healthcare efforts while families enjoy the festivities.

Kids Easter Bunnies Night

Keep the celebration going on March 26th from 5-8pm at The Galley for Kids Easter Bunnies Night. This free event invites families to enjoy an evening designed just for kids, featuring a special visit from the Easter Bunnies and plenty of seasonal fun.

Bayou to Main Spring Fling

On March 28th, head to Historic Main Street for the Bayou to Main Spring Fling. This lively community event features photos with the Easter Bunny, an egg hunt, and live music in the heart of downtown, making it the perfect way to wrap up Easter celebrations on the Cajun Coast.

Begins at Franklin Senior High School on Main St., proceeds east on Main St., making a U-turn and then continues onto Willow St. The parade then turns right onto Third St., disbanding at the end of Third St.; 1pm

City of Franklin Christmas Under the Lamppost Decorated Golf Cart Parade and Christmas on the Bayou Lighting Display Ceremony will be held with line up at 5 pm and parade will begin at 6 pm at the corner of Iberia Street and Main Street, and ending at the Courthouse Square with the lighting of the parish tree and over 1 million immediately after the parade.
