Celebrate one of Louisiana’s longest-running traditions at the 91st Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival from September 3rd-7th in Morgan City. Known as the oldest state-chartered festival in Louisiana, this multi-day celebration brings together parades, live music, arts and crafts, fireworks, family activities, local history, and traditions honoring the industries that helped shape the Cajun Coast.
For more than nine decades, the Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival has celebrated the people, culture, and industries of Morgan City and the surrounding area. The festival returns for five days of community events and entertainment, offering plenty of ways for visitors of all ages to join the celebration.
Parades, Music, and Family Fun
Festival activities include a street parade, children’s parade, Music in the Park, a carnival, Children’s Village, and arts and crafts. Visitors can also explore the Artist Guild Art Show and enjoy a full schedule of activities throughout the long weekend.
The Blessing of the Fleet remains one of the festival’s signature traditions, honoring the shrimping and petroleum vessels that are an important part of the area’s story. Fireworks on the River will also light up the waterfront during the celebration.
The festival brings the community together through the 100 Black Men 5K run/walk, Mass in the Park, the Petro Pit, and the annual Coronation and Ball. Each event adds another part to a celebration rooted in local pride and tradition.
Visitors can learn more about the industries behind the festival at the Diving and ROV Historical Preservation Museum and Mr. Charlie Oil Rig. These attractions help tell the story of offshore energy, diving, and the working waterways of the Cajun Coast.
