“Geaux Paddle” recreation program is offering paddling opportunities for kids ages 10-14 on Bayou Teche.
The goal of Geaux Paddle is to get kids who have never paddled comfortable with paddling and then out enjoying Bayou Teche,
the first National Water Trail in Louisiana! This program will include safety instruction, an experiment on water testing,
paddle to New Iberia City Park, and an art project with Margaret Simon.
The paddle portion will also teach about wood duck boxes and the importance of providing safe nest sites for reproduction;
education on flora and fauna and the importance of native plants; and trash pickup.
Advance registration is required. Refunds for cancellations will not be offered after May 17.
Kayaks/canoes, life jackets, and drinks will be provided.
Participants must bring their own lunch in a waterproof container.
8:30 a.m.: Arrival at the home of Margaret & Jeff Simon
9-10 a.m.: Paddle safety instruction & water quality experiment
10-11:30 a.m.: Paddle to New Iberia City Park
11:30 a.m.-noon: Picnic lunch in City Park (bring your own lunch)
Noon- 1 p.m.: Found art project in nature.
